The holistic approach to scoring your team

One platform, that performs well in all areas, for all your business reporting and operational needs? No such thing, or so you think. You may be familiar with this narrative, you’ve been searching for a system or platform to assist you in ranking or scoring your operators but they all fall short in some way. They have their pros, but you can’t help wishing that if only two or three systems could marry each other, that would solve your world of problems.

You’re not the only one. Our client couldn’t believe that we had one holistic solution for their myriad of functions when it came to reporting on their operators. Our name is Single Source Solutions, and as our name suggests, the challenge of creating and building one system that is your business’ solution, is much welcomed.

Here is how it started.

What Was The Problem?

Technology systems usually have a way of ranking or scoring Operators but this is constrained to each system in isolation and the events/alerts they can generate. Companies are looking to holistically score Operators across multiple systems to ensure they are considering everything when deciding on safety or training interventions, and opportunities. Easier said than done when each system predominantly has some aspects they do well and some they do poorly. An example of this is how DMS (Driver Monitoring Systems) usually utilises a GPS puck to determine speed and distance travelled whereas other systems, such as Telematics, can integrate with the vehicle ECM to get the actual values.

What Was The Solution?

Single Source Solutions developed a Scorecarding Module, where we can process data live every 30 minutes in batches, updating the scorecards with up-to-date information. These scorecards can utilise any event or condition that is available from the integrations the customer has connected to the platform and relate everything to 1 km travelled or 1 Hour of Operation to ensure it is comparing apples to apples. This is being expanded into Benchmarking, which will give the companies a way of comparing their performance against the greater population. Knowing where you sit within your industry and market, instantly declares what gaps you may have within your company’s operations.

What Were The Outcomes?

  • Companies can now create customised scoring systems that resonate with the way they report and their priorities. For example, Customer One might want to use 30% Fatigue, 20% Distraction, 20% Cell Phone Usage, 15% Speeding, 15% Driving without a Seatbelt and Customer  Two might want to use 10% Fatigue, 10% FOV, 40% Cell Phone Usage, 10% Harsh Breaking, 30% Driving without a Seatbelt.

  • Each company can also create multiple scorecards so there could be one for Driver Assessment and one for Vehicle Maintenance that is focused on Harsh Braking / Acceleration / Cornering to assess which vehicle needs to be serviced more regularly after being driven much harder than others.

  • Employees and Managers can compare their company performance to historic periods:

    • Compare Fleets or Branches against each other

    • Drivers ranked against their peers

    • Vehicles against Vehicles to allow

This allows any use case that the customer can dream up.

  • Benchmarking will give companies an understanding of what the industry standard looks like. There is currently nothing that exists in the market where companies can see the performance of their peers with different technologies and compare themselves. It is not intended to be used as a disciplinary tool but as an option to see what “good” actually looks like.

Scoring and utilising a scorecard will help as a Manager understand the standard and where an asset, or employee should be. Performance management never became easier, the data assists with creating the scenarios and logs that you will need to bring. And now, you don’t need multiple systems to culminate this data for you, instead, you could have one system that speaks to it all.
